Casual Information for Tuesday, 18th September, 2012

Thank you for taking my class today :) Please have a chat to Mrs Gwilliam about specific needs of students in our class.

9.00 - 9.15: Mrs Gwilliam's Book Club
Mrs Gwilliam reads books to students while you mark roll, check communication folders and organise any money.

9.15 - 10.00: Morning Circle
The file is located in Teachers Drive > Field > 2012 Morning circle current
Morning circle is pretty self-explanatory when using the file. Just move from page to page, covering:
- Singing days/months songs. Each student can choose a song today.
- Identifying the day.
- Who's here. Each student pops their balloon and then greets the other students one at a time. We focus on eye contact, waiting for a response, appropriate greeting types and voice.
- Today's date. Shaymat to make the date on the IWB. Set the timer to 15 seconds. Monica to make the date using the date cards. Set the timer to 1 minute.
- Weather. You'll need to open this in the Internet Explorer browser as there's a problem with Firefox at the moment. To get to it, you'll need to click on the "Weather" button to the left of this page. The kids identify the current temperature and weather, then we look at what the temp/weather will be like at recess, lunch, hometime. Ask Joshua/Mohamad/Iman about how many degrees the temp will go up/down.
- What's happening. Go through the daily schedule. Get Mohamad to describe the day using order words (First, then, next etc.).

10.00 - 10.45: Literacy
- Read the book "Big Feet" :
http://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/EBooks/Big%20Feet/index.html
- Predict what the story will be about using the picture/titles. Use prediction throughout book to see what the students think might be causing the 'big feet' marks.
- At the end of the story, jointly sequence the pictures using this file:

You'll need to print 9 copies (8 for kids, 1 for modelling). Monica to match pictures to pictures. The rest to sequence using the numbered sheet. Ryan and Shaahid might need the picture sheet to use as a model.
Fast Finishing activity: Using coloured paper, kids can trace their shoes and cut them out. Work out who has the biggest feet.

10.45 - 11.00: Eating time
Students eat in the classroom.

11.00 - 11.20: Recess

11.20 - 12.00: Making Cubes
- Using the connector sticks (at the front of the classroom) have the students make cubes. Model first. Talk about how many edges (sticks) and corners (connector pieces) they'll need and have students count out the number they'll need.

12.00 - 12.30: Library

12.30 - 1.00:
- Students can each choose a song from the Maths song choiceboard. Click here for the song choiceboard.
- Mohamad/Iman/Joshua/Olivia can do some times tables work using calculators in their books.
- Ryan/Monica/Shaahid/Shaymat can do some of the maths games in the blue container on the cupboard (number matching/counting matching etc).

1.00 - 2.00: Lunch

2.00 - 2.30: CAPA/Music
- Iman to go to choir.
- Rest of class to use Incredibox to make some music:
http://www.incredibox.com/en/#/application
(This site takes a little while to load, so you might want to load it at lunchtime so it's ready to go).
It works by dragging the little icons at the bottom of the page onto the people, and layering the sounds. You might want to show the kids a few different sounds and talk about the different parts of the music, then have them take turns to 'add layers' to make a song together.

2.30 - 2.45: Free Play
- Students to choose a free play activity, e.g. cars, writing on whiteboards, computer etc.

2.45 - 3.00: Pack up and taxis
